Battery Cell, Module or Pack. What''s the difference? [Infographics] The manufacturing of battery cells compared to battery packs or modules are two very different industrial processes. Battery cell production is primarily a chemical process, while module and pack production is a mechanical assembly process.
Battery Module: A group of interconnected battery cells that increases voltage and capacity compared to individual cells. It includes wiring and connectors and may feature a basic battery management system (BMS) for monitoring. Battery Pack: A complete energy storage system containing one or more modules.
In the battery pack, to safely and effectively manage hundreds of single battery cells, the cells are not randomly placed in the power battery shell but orderly according to modules and packages. The smallest unit is the battery cell. A group of cells can form a module. Several modules can be combined into a package.
Cost Efficiency: Cells are often standardized, making modules and packs more cost-effective to produce and maintain. Electric Vehicles (EVs): Battery packs in EVs are made up of multiple modules, each containing several cells. For example, the Tesla Powerwall uses a large-scale battery pack for home energy storage.
