China initiated construction of the Chongqing Space Solar Power Plant in 2019 and plans to utilize the Long March-9 rocket for transportation. Without atmospheric interference, space-based photovoltaic cells receive the full intensity of solar radiation – approximately 1,361 watts per square meter compared to a maximum of about 1,000 watts per square meter at Earth''s surface on the clearest days. This intensity advantage translates directly to efficiency gains.
